Apocalypse Journey

~ exploring the personal significance of the images in the book of Revelation

Swedenborg House 20 – 21 Bloomsbury Way London WC1A 2TH Friday 13th July 2012 6.30 – 8.30pm Cost £10 (£8 concs.)

The Book of Revelation has inspired many interpretations over the 2,000 years or so of its existence. Its vivid images lend themselves to this visual presentation which enters our imaginations in often unexpected ways. Many of these images can also evoke fear, in spite of the book’s many reassurances that the Divine is in control.

How do we make sense of these images of what seems chaotic energy? To point to the end of our world, or the condemnation of those who are judged to be outside of the body of ‘believers’, does not seem to fit with the concept of compassionate and divine love.

This workshop will offer a different perspective, seeing the conflicts and struggles of the book within each of us.

We shall look at how we can face up to the apparent destruction emerging from the “unveiling” of what may be hidden within us. We are then open to discover how we can harness positive influences and energies from God in this process, so that we can come nearer to Him.

There will be a short introductory talk and then we will work with cards exploring the images in terms of our own spiritual journey. The cards used are images from the book of Revelation, designed and drawn by G Roland Smith

Facilitator: Clifford Curry

Clifford encourages others to discover the spiritual dimension of life.  A former spiritual leader of the Swedenborg Open Learning Centre, he has served in ministry for over 25 years and led many events and workshops. He is part of a group exploring the relevance of the Book of Revelation to our own spiritual journey.

The Holy City, new Jerusalem, that John sees descending out of heaven from God is in the form not of a city, but of a bride, beautifully dressed for her husband.

In symbolic form we are presented with a picture of the end goal of all spiritual growth. The view presented will be that this is the true and beautiful marriage between God and his human creation. The two are bound together by one mutual love: God’s love of his whole human creation, and each individual’s responding love for his or her Creator, the perfect marriage.

All is centred in a conscious conjoining of our lives with the indwelling presence of the Divine, enabling us to live life in the golden light of God’s love for all people. This brings truly fruitful spirituality and an inner healing and wholeness.
