Just imagine you have been made homeless and the best you can find is a canvas shelter for you and your family: something typically which is only going to last around six months, that is not so easy to assemble and which very easily gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
The good news is there is a new flat pack refugee shelter design available. Designed by Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA and the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees, this is made from poles and panels, and is easier to transport than conventional shelters. The new design lasts up to 3 years and has a solar panel on the roof which provides light and energy systems. A shade net reflects heat in the summer and provides insulation in the winter.
