Distance Learning Course: Swedenborgian Approaches to Issues of the Contemporary World
In the modern world we meet many ethical challenges, and there is often no consensus on how they should be confronted. Different religions hold opposing views, different nationalities see these situations from other perspectives. Topics like abortion, euthanasia and the environment cause confrontation and discord.
The course relates what Swedenborg says about death and dying and spiritual principles to a deeper consideration of such issues. It addresses various ethical “hot potatoes”, not to give black and white solutions but to get the student thinking about the issues from different perspectives.
It includes a sense of how some commentators view tensions between the personal and the communal, and how this tension might be resolved.
