Mary had reached the end of her earthly life. As the cord was cut she awoke to find herself in a brilliantly lit room and by her side was a suitcase.
Looking at the suitcase Mary was hesitant because this was no ordinary suitcase. It was full of thoughts, deeds, actions and motives, spanning all of her 80 years on earth. Slowly she opened the suitcase and the memories came flooding back, long forgotten things, some of which she would rather keep buried.
It wasn’t too bad as suitcases go. On the whole she had been quite a good person with only the occasional lapses, like the time she emptied her purse into the collection box, not because she was being charitable, but her purse was full of coppers and this was the quickest way to lighten it.
As Mary reflected on her life she realised nothing could be hidden and even the smallest thought or deed had some effect, be it for good or bad.
Mary closed her suitcase. She was surprised how light it was. Glancing around her Mary saw many people carrying suitcases and with sorrow she saw that some of the people could hardly carry theirs so great was the weight, their faces seeing to carry great burdens.
Just then an angel guide seeing Mary and her distress approached and said, “Mary all the people you see like you have filled their own suitcases through their life, all have had free will and chosen what to put in. The ones you see, that are so heavy they can hardly carry them, are the one’s who have filled their suitcase with hate, jealousy, greed, lust, dishonesty and materialism. The more love, kindness, honesty and spirituality you show, then the lighter your suitcase and burden will be.”
