Cheap energy – What’s stopping it?

By Stephen Russell-Lacy

Climate change, risk of nuclear devastation, world poverty and global debt are all things that need to be addressed urgently. Cheap energy would be one important solution.

Is the lack of significant progress is creating cheap energy due to random factors or human design? Or a bit of both.

Climate change and environmental damage

If nothing changes, then global warming will continue to lead to extreme temperatures. This will be lethal where humidity is high, affecting half the world’s population if the earth warms up by just 3.6 degrees Centigrade. We need to engage in developing sustainable cheap energy rather than fossil fuel dependency.

Danger of global nuclear devastation

Scientists have calculated that it would take no more than 100 nuclear bombs to end conditions on earth for the survival of humanity. There were approximately 12,500 such warheads worldwide as of January 2023. Clearly, the powers that be need to work towards disarmament rather than being so jealous, suspicious and willing to fight for global supremacy over energy.

World poverty and inequality

The world is vastly unequal; extreme wealth coexists with extreme poverty. The poorest 50% of the global population share just 8% of total income. At the same time, the richest 10% of the global population earn over 50% of total income. The availability of cheap energy and the stopping of unfair exploitation are needed if  this state affairs is to change.

Financial debt loaded on future generations

We are loading a huge financial burden on our children. The current UK government gross debt was £2.5 trillion equivalent to £38,000 per person. The US figure is $32.7 trillion that’s $98,000 per person. Investing in the future and spending less on fuel and developing cheap energy is the challenge here.

Some reasons for blocking change

There are probably several reasons why crucially needed changes are not being embraced by the public, and the corporate and political powers that be. The industrial-military complex with its reliance on the economic status-quo arguably has supported aggrandisement and paranoid aggression,  financial greed, preservation of power and status, and lack of compassion.

Cheap energy and millenarianism.

Why is the technology for creating cheap energy that is environmentally friendly not being developed adequately? One possible factor, prevalent in the commercial and government corridors of power, has been identified by Dr. Steven Greer.

Greer is leader of the Disclosure Project which is an effort to protect government whistleblowers willing to violate their security oaths by sharing classified information regarding covert activities.

One factor he has identified is a bizarre ideological one, known as millenarianism. This is the misguided notion that there will be a future (and typically imminent) thousand-year age of blessedness, beginning with or culminating in the Second Coming of Christ. Mainstream theologians argue that millenarians misuse scriptural prophecies.

In other words Greer is saying that there is an “end of the world” religious stance promoting the growth of a hidden agenda of technological neglect and obstruction within corporate and political institutions.

Mormons, who believe in millenarianism, have long held major government positions in the USA. Greer claims this ideology has and still has a powerful effect in the covert realms of control.

“From what my experience is there are people who actually believe that Armageddon should happen so we have to have these wars.” (Carol Rosin, first woman corporate manager of an aerospace company, Fairchild Industries and founder of the Institute for Security and Cooperation in Outer Space)

Effect of millenarianism

He writes that these are the people who have a worldview of destruction and assume that the only way for Christ to come back is for the world to be destroyed and for billions of people to be killed. He alleges that at least some of these believers hold the amazing opinion that environmentalists don’t need to really worry about the environment because the end of the world is coming soon and the world’s going to be destroyed anyway.

“From a fanatical end-of-the-world perspective, it makes sense to add half a trillion dollars a year in debt to add to an $8 trillion debt to pass on to our children. It makes sense to hold up, for decades, technologies that could save the earth even though you know both polar ice caps are melting! And why not allow thousands of species of plants and animals to become extinct? The world is ending anyway! ” (Steven Greer Hidden Truth: Forbidden Knowledge Chapter 30)

The extent of millenarianism as an obstructive force

Greer goes on to say that people in the US with very secret religious agendas have infiltrated agencies and corporations and are now calling the shots. An insider has told him that those who believe in millenarianism identify and recruit people with a similar belief.  As a consequence, over time many have been pulled into the senior echelons of the CIA, FBI, military, and a huge number of universities, laboratories, and corporations.

He warns about the millenarians’ misinterpretation of scripture as having chaotic consequences on the suppression of developing cheap energy technology.

“We are closing one chapter of human history, and we’re going to open another. In the closing of one and the opening of another, much chaos is possible.”

The question of the extent of millenarianism, in obstructing technological development of cheap energy, remains difficult to answer. Greed, cruelty or megalomania do not motivate all of millenarianists in position of power.  However they do need to understand why global destruction is unnecessary for their dreams to come true.

Emanuel Swedenborg’s view

Many readers of the books, by Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), recognise a mystical as well as an intellectual rigour brought to religious thought. He went back to first principles and approached everything in Christianity from a new angle. He offers an alternative understanding of the biblical message concerning the last judgment and second coming of Christ.

According to Swedenborg, we should not think of the last judgment and the second coming of Christ in a literal way. They are not events that happen to the physical world but rather to the world of the human spirit. (This he terms the ‘spiritual world’.)

Furthermore, he says the last judgment has already happened during his lifetime.  It consisted of a dazzling divine light which exposed the inner character of many people in the afterlife. Everyone could then see those who were inwardly thieves and adulterers for what they actually were. Consequently these hypocrites and good people separated from each other.

Effect of Divine clearing up

This process has affected the spirit of our times. No longer is hypocrisy blocking the flow of what is good from the higher realms.

“There was a startling increase of freedom everywhere, as if a load had been lifted from the human race. This led to revolutions in many parts of the world, the trade union movement, the abolition of slavery, women’s rights, and so on. … There is a critical spirit everywhere; nothing is taken for granted. Accepted beliefs are being challenged, and old customs are ignored.” (Brian Kingslake, The Spiritual Dimension chapter 23)

Kingslake goes on to point out that owing to the clearing-up of the ‘spiritual world’, there has been a tremendous increase in the influx of love and wisdom from higher consciousness. To balance it, and thus preserve our inner human freedom, Swedenborg maintained that there has been a commensurate increase in the inflow into the world of malevolence, self-aggrandisement, and greed, and the delusional ideas that justify them. Thus we get the paradox that although the world is getting better and better and has never been so good as it is today, it is also getting worse and worse and has never been so bad as it is today!
